How confidence works.

We combine recent NASA FIRMS thermal observations with official and curated active-incident feeds. The default map shows likely and confirmed wildfires; weaker potential activity can be switched on separately.

Potential, likely, confirmed

Potential is a recent, credible but uncorroborated thermal anomaly. Likely requires repeated observations, multiple satellites, high-confidence detections, or a stronger clustered heat signature. Confirmed means NIFC/IRWIN, CWFIS, GDACS/GWIS or NASA EONET reports an active wildfire.

Distance changes the alert threshold

Standard sensitivity can alert on credible potential activity within 2 km. From 2 km to the customer’s chosen radius, an incident must be likely or confirmed. A confidence upgrade alone is not treated as a material follow-up.

Known limitations

Thermal anomalies can come from industrial heat, prescribed burning, or observation artefacts. Official reporting can also be delayed. Wildfire Alerts adds situational awareness; local emergency authorities remain the source for official instructions.
